La Rosiere

La Rosiere is a small, traditional and accessible resort, with many attractive buildings, which are spread discreetly in the woods. There are two distinct parts to La Rosiere. There is the original ski resort and then connected by bus and just over a km further around the mountain is the newer development of Les Eucherts, where most of the chalets in La Rosiere are located. This area has been very sympathetically designed and built – with its Croisette ‘ski front’ area of restaurants, ski hire shops and ski schools. Most of the chalets in this part of La Rosiere are very close to the lifts of Les Eucherts and many are pretty much ski-in and ski-out, for convenience.

There isn’t much to the resort except accommodation and a few shops, 28 restaurants and bars, so the atmosphere is peaceful and due to the height of resort, there are fine panoramic views. After dark the apres ski scene is limited to a couple of bars and there is a reasonable choice of restaurants to sample – head to Genepi’s for outstanding steaks and this is where the “bowling” bar is with real ten pin bowling for some family fun.Also check out the Igloo bar, which is a giant 130m2 igloo and opens until 5pm on the slopes.

La Rosiere ski resort is at an altitude of 1850m and reached from Bourg-St-Maurice, ensuring a good snow record. The area links with its Italian neighbour, La Thuile, which opens up a large number of pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, but with little challenging terrain. The combined ski area is called the Espace San Bernardo, with both the French and the Italian areas offering interesting and distinct skiing atmospheres. Enjoy a French croissant or pain chocolat with your morning coffee; then a delicious Italian pasta lunch near La Thuile after an 11km run, before heading back to La Rosiere for a crepe at the end of the day. Crossing the Franco Italian border twice in a day makes for an interesting mountain experience!

La Rosiere is a very good choice of resort for beginners, intermediates and families as there is an exceptionally reputable ESF ski school meaning you will be in safe hands. For those wanting to push the limits a little then there is the opportunity to heli-ski in Italy which is just a couple of miles away. The Moulin Express and Mont Valasian Express chairlifts now open up a large area of skiing best suited to better skiers. There is also lots of high altitude off-piste terrain accessible from the highest lift accessed point in the ski area at 2,800 metres. All in all a great family choice.
